Survey of Wet-bulb Globe Temperature(WBGT)Index by R. O. K. Navy War-ships

Abstract
The author measured wet-bulb, globe, and dry-bulb thermometer temperatures of the 5 R. O. K. Navy ships(LSM, MSC, LST, MHC, PGK) to construct the wet-bulb globe temperature inex(WBGT) suing August Stand Psychometer a
nd 6-inch globe thermometer 1.2
meter
above ground from August 14 to September 16 in 1991. The compartments surveyed were operation room, deck, galley and engine room and measured 5 times(08, 10, 12, 14, 16 hours) a day. The temperatures were measured after allowing about 15 minutes
to
stabilize in one stand. K values of WBGT index were 0.7 for outdoors and 1.0 for indoors. The WBGT indices of operation rooms were well below 27.8¡Éwhich is the criteria for the moderate level of work for the threshold WBGT values for the hottest
2-hour
period of a day except for 27.8¡Éof 14 hour in MSC. Those of decks were above 27.8¡Éduring most of the measureent times in MSC, LSM and MHC. High WBGT indices were noted in all of the 5 ships showing above 30¡Éduring one of the measurement times
at
least during the day which is the criteria for the light work level. Especially the MSC and MHC showed more than 30¡Éduring most of the measurement times. Overall the WBGT indices of galleys were higher than those of operation rooms and well
above
27.8¡É in most of the ships, particularly MSC showing above 30¡Éduring most of the day from 10 to 16 hours. Two peaks were noted in most of the ships' galleys at 12and 16 hours.
